flower in high contrast with sun
a typical English Holyhoke

I love this time of year. The sun is bright, shadows are harsh (if the sun ever shines on this island) – and it all starts when I have my morning coffee outside.

They always tell us (the photography gods that is) that you can not, or at least should not take outdoor photos in bright sunlight. That’s a lie. In my world that is. I love it. The harsh contrast, the shadows, the highlights, all can come together to a nice – or at least interesting – photograph. I take as many successful photographs in harsh mid-day light as I do in the whee hours of the morning. Or at dusk. At least, that’s what I like to believe.
